Chesterton Windmill Chesterton Windmill is a conspicous landmark in South-East Warwickshire. Chesterton Windmill was built in 1632, and remained in working use until 1910. The windmill was restored between 1965 and 1971 by Warwickshire County Council. Chesterton Windmill was probably built for Sir Edward Peyto, owner of Chesterton Manor. It may have been designed by Inigo Jones, or possibly by Sir Edward Payto himself. It isn't certain whether it was originally designed as a windmill, or originally intended as a viewing point.
Chesterton Windmilll is occasionally opened to the public (usually one weekend a year). Visitors can climb up steep wooden stairs into the building. There are two floors inside the windmill. On the lower floor are the mill wheels which grind the corn into flour. This picture is taken inside the upper floor and shows the wooden gear wheels which transmit the power to the millwheels on the floor below.
Burton Dassett The Burton Dassett hills provide very good views of the area around Leamington. There is an engraved plaque at the top of one of these hills, just where this picture was taken, which has sight lines to the many places that can be seen from this view point.
